FULLY BAKED

I originally posted this on Facebook on April 16, 2017. Of course, the time of year is reflected in the content - Passover and Days of Unleavened Bread. I want this on my blog, though, because I want my thoughts here for those interested to read.   FULLY BAKED   If you place a pan or bowl of uncooked dough in a room or outside, it will rise, becoming softer and more puffy. It will do so whether you include a leavening agent, such as yeast, or not. Yeast, and other leavening agents, will certainly hasten the process, but the process will occur either way. This is because the spores that cause leavening exist in the air we breathe and are activated by the warmth generated by our sun. They are physically unavoidable.   Leavening is used in scripture as a type of, an analogy for, sin. We are told to extricate it from our lives for a period of seven days each year. This, of course, is a reminder for us that we must focus on the sin that infiltrates our lives, on its pervasiven...

FOCUS THROUGH TRIALS

I originally wrote this on July 9, 2020, as a Facebook post. I think it belongs in my blog. FOCUS THROUGH TRIALS   Historically, I have been an avid writer on various topics. My preferred genre has always been my thoughts about improving relationships and declaring positive thoughts about relationships – mine and those I see. For quite some time, I have been silent. My silence has been primarily due to medical issues at home. Last year, in 2019, I finally had to deal with a shoulder injury I sustained in January 2017. That meant undergoing surgery for a torn labrum in my left shoulder. The shoulder had been giving me problems for the entire time, but, in 2018 and 2019, it became intolerable. I underwent the surgery and looked eagerly forward to healing and moving on with life. Two weeks after the labrum repair surgery, I was out walking around as instructed by my surgeon and slipped and fell on a muddy sidewalk. I was determined to not reinjure my left shoulder by falling on...

Good Intentions?

I grew up in a very rural environment in northwest Louisiana in the 1960’s through the 1970’s. Hard work wasn’t just expected; it was essential to our way of life. More than just working hard, though, we were expected to do the job right. My ears rang with the question, “If you don’t have time to do it right, do you have time to do it over?” In spite of my best efforts, though, I sometimes still didn’t get it right. I wanted to do the task right. I certainly didn’t want to do it over. My intentions were good but my actions didn’t always measure up. It can be a real challenge to deal with a person who lacks the people skills to treat others properly; with kindness, patience, tenderness, and grace. It’s especially hard when you know that they know how to treat others; they just lack the skills to do so regularly. Often, such a person will respond that they certainly did not intend to mistreat someone when they are presented with concerns about their treatment. It can be frustra...

Introduction to my blog...

Welcome to my blog! I am excited, if a bit tentative, about using this manner of communication. This is probably true mostly due to my relative lack of familiarity with the blogosphere. This is intended to be a place where I can present my thoughts about any given topic for public consumption. I don't claim that my perspective is always the "right" one; it is what I believe based upon my experiences, convictions, and core values. I welcome comments as long as they are directly related to my writings and are presented in a manner that demonstrates respect and appreciation for all. If you wish to change my perspective, remember that, as my dad used to say, you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. I don't expect to really advertise my blog. Whenever I have posted a new essay, I will likely mention it on my Facebook page. I welcome suggestions for topics about which you may like my thoughts. I can't promise that I'll take every suggestion, but...
